Totem Installation in collaboration with Nigel Goldie
Salvaged shopping trolleys, Waitrose jute bags, sand H410 W280 D70cm
As a direct result of prior exposure to
(see In Transit project) the artists were invited to pitch to Start, to place iconic sculptures in the St James’ Palace gardens as part of their sustainability drive
Of 3 ideas submitted 2 were selected. The original proposal was for “Totem” to straddle the garden wall of Lancaster House but after much deliberation a less dramatic plot was offered. It was the artists’ first opportunity to play with full sized tonka toys. “Totem” was erected with the help of a fork lift with a 12m boom arm

Thanks once again go to
who sponsored the project and provided 22 broken trolleys destined for recycling

Lofty
Mild steel, Owatrol oil H230 W30 D30cm
“Lofty” was the second to be selected and found its way into Clarence House’s Garden. The idea of a highchair which enabled an overview appealed to the organisers of a festival to kick start sustainable practices

Lofty was designed in 2009 and fabricated by Littlehampton Welding, the most artist-friendly welders Hinchee has ever had the pleasure to work with
